This shot sets the scene of the building and what the character is wearing and as you can see he is dressed formally with a long trench coat with a white shirt and tie.
The scene then progresses with character 1 opening the door with a match on action shot of the door handle, this is one of the shots that needed to be included in the short preliminary task and we feel that it was an appropriate place to add this shot of him opening the door.
We noticed a slight error in our video as you see the keyboard in the corner of the room in the image above but we moved the keyboard in our next shot and the keyboard then is not there in the next shot in the corner of the room. We forgot to move the keyboard back. Continuity is something that we know we need to work on in our final video and make sure we dont make this mistake again.
We noticed this error once the film had already been edited and put together so it was a little too late to change it.
The scene then progresses with a two shot of character one and character two looking at the piano and then a shot reverse shot between the two characters, These shots also needed to be included in our preliminary task to obtain the marks that we needed and we felt that these were appropriate places to add these shots.
We then added another match on action of character 1 playing the piano and we feel that this shot worked very well and it has a very cinematic feel to it. We also noticed another error at this stage and the error was to do with the microphone. The microphone picked up the piano but it was really distorted, this was due to the fact that the microphone is made for picking up dialogue and not live instrument sounds. If we are going to include live instruments in our 2 minute intro we would record them in a studio and then dub it over the top in post production.
We also had another error and this was when it was a two shot of character 1 and 2 and character 2 was talking but character 1’s head was in the way so it was not an ideal shot because you couldn't see the character who was talking. This was down to having a small space to film in and we could not adjust the angle as there was a shortage of room for us to maneuver around in. One way we could of avoided this would of been to use a smaller lens on the camera but since we only had one lens on the day we had to make do with what we had. Another way we could of avoided this would be to just use a bigger space.
The scene then ends with character 1 exiting the room and correcting his jacket meaning that his work is done. This shot has a little bit of haze from the light at the top of the frame and we feel this makes the shot look less professional as it takes away from the quality of the image.
To summarise our preliminary task, we felt as a group that the final outcome came out well despite the few errors that were made. We followed all the rules and instructions that were required and these are, match on action, shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule followed, character entering room and sitting down, and some exchange of dialogue. We plan to learn from all the mistakes made and try to not to make the same kind of errors again.
